I can’t believe it’s been 5 years now since Lithium Cycles aka Super73 has been around. It feels like yesterday when I was browsing the internet and came across this cool retro styling electric mini bike called the Lithium Cycles Original 2016 on Kickstarter. I believe I first saw it on Designboom and then uncrate and found out that they were located in Tustin, CA just down the street from where I lived with some good high school/college buddies.

Let’s jump right in. At K1 Speed, I was looking for some fun and different things we could put on the track that wasn’t the typical electric go-kart. Boosted Board was around but I wasn’t able to connect with anyone from the company. So I reached out to Lithium Cycles to set up a test ride at their shop thinking they might be interested to hop on the track for a little fun. I was greeted by Anh walking into the doors and a few more in the office all waiving hi. I saw a row of Original 2016 models and they looked even better in person. I went ahead and signed the waiver knowing how fun this teaser could be on our track. I was right, it was a blast ripping around in the business park. Michael (co-founder) came out to chat with me and I said, “I’m loving this electric bike. Do you guys want to ride on a go-kart track just a few miles away? I handle the marketing at K1 Speed and I think we can work on a fun video together. Absolutely no charge since it’s after business hours.” They accepted the invitation and came over with a couple of bikes.

After a night of riding around on the track, I made excuses to come hang out with the team after work including; Josh, Jose, Aaron, Alix, LeGrand to name a few. They were a fun bunch and I had some opportunities to get the e-bike in front of more people. I took a couple to some NASCAR races and used it as a pit bike to get around the tracks. Definitely, a head-turner wherever I went. Not too long after, I found out a Formula Drift team, Greddy Racing, had a custom OG 2016. I knew I had to get one and come April I was a proud owner of a Lithium Cycles Original 2016!

Fast forward to 2018. I’ve been flirting with the team on coming to work for the brand and loved the idea. We finally made it work and I started the last week of December that year just before the holiday break. I’ll get it into this more on another post but it’s been a really fun journey so far seeing the growth from start-up to 100+ employees worldwide.
