“What an amazing turnout! I think we counted over 60 riders.”

You better believe it. The LA Super Squad came out in full force that day on the west side. A collaboration in the making between Super73 x Champion with both brands supporting the community.

Super73 x Champion

It was a sunny summer day on Sat. August 24th 2019. The team loaded up all three vans with a ton of bikes for our employees to ride as well as loaner bikes for the Super Squad. One bike in particular that made the trip was the Soundboks bike that was custom made by our design team. We built a bike surrounding the bluetooth speaker. If that’s not pretty cool, I don’t know what is. And man…did that speaker bump. We could have rattled the store windows if we wanted to haha. That bike definitely turned some heads and felt like you were riding some massive chopper. The turning radius isn’t the best so it’s recommended to ride in a straight line. Even with two batteries, you’ll probably get a 20-mile range. It’s heave af for sure.

We arrived a little behind schedule due to typical LA traffic. But with a good size team, we were able to set up and manage to park one of our vans in the parking stall. That’s when we were met with some familiar and new faces. Bikes were already lining up in front of the store and were greeted by the local Super Squad. “Hey guys, we can’t wait for this ride!” “This is so dope. We’re waiting in line to get some fresh gear.” I can’t explain how awesome the feeling is to work for a brand that puts smiles on people’s faces. Plenty of riders see our bikes as a blank canvas. They get their bike stock and make it their own. Whether it be changing the pedals and grips to designing their own battery decals. We love to see the creativity that comes from the Super Squad.

Having a “wheelie” fun time

Inside the shop, there was live custom screen-printing with the purchase of blank Champion gear that was 20% off that day. You had the choice of a select few designs that you can add anywhere on your t-shirt or sweatshirt. The line extended to the front door and then some. To this day, we still see some riders wearing the gear from that day. Big shoutout to Selo from Champion!

We got to celebrate a special guest from New York who made the trip out to join us during his birthday. It was great to finally meet him in person from talking on the phone and chatting on group chats. He was a big part of the brand supporting the community in NY/NJ area. Happy that his visit all went well.

Onto the ride. We started in LA Brea and made our way east to K-Town then DTLA. We made a stop at a local restaurant for some drinks and food. We essentially took over the place with the number of people we had. It was fun reconnecting with the local community and getting to speak with some new members about their experience with their bike(s). After fueling up we headed back east towards Miracle Mile ending back at the Champion store. It was a fun route hitting different aspects of LA and everyone had a good time. With that amount of riders, it’s recommended to have a support vehicle which we did. You never know what could happen and might as well be prepared for a flat tire or dead battery.

All in all a really fun day with the Super Squad. The community is constantly growing and we look forward to another massive group ride!
