Review: Arclight Pedals

Redshift reached out and sent us a few samples of their new Arclight smart LED bicycle pedals. Funny enough, I recently started seeing their ads on Instagram and a few days later they arrived. It’s like they were reading my mind.

The Arclight Pedals came in a small cardboard box including…

  • 2x Aluminum Arclight Bicycle Pedals

  • 4x Arclight Smart LED Light Modules

  • 1x USB Charging Dock

I opened the box and unwrapped the pedals. They have a good feel and weight to them made of sturdy aluminum to withstand all types of weather conditions. The instructions were next which highlight the tools needed and necessary steps to charge the modules and install the pedals on your bike.

I proceeded to charge the modules with the included USB Charging Dock. It’s similar to a USB Hub but it allows you to charge all four at the same time which is nice. The next step is removing the old pedals from my bike which I used a pedal wrench from Park Tool. I then applied grease to the threads of both pedals and installed them. A super simple procedure.

Once the modules were charged, I then installed them on both pedals. They slide in easy with a magnetic click to know that they are secured. Press the button and you’ll be able to select several light modes - solid, flash, and eco-flash. I noticed right away that the lights were intuitive. So the white is always forward and the red is always rear no matter the orientation. A pretty cool feature in my eyes. It also gives a 360° lighted area around the rider making you more visible to vehicles. The lights have an IP64 rating and up to 36+ hours of battery life (depending on which light mode you select). Knowing that I don’t have to charge the modules too often is a plus but it’s still very easy to remove and charge the modules.

The pedals lit up the night on my first test run in the neighborhood. I played around with the light mode settings and the sold light was bright enough for me. A nice feature to have the other modes getting more attention to yourself for those on the road. I can see our community of riders purchasing this product adding a personal touch to their bikes. It would be cool if their were more color choices. I feel like riders would enjoy more options but I understand the safety of having white and red.

I’ve used these pedals for about two weeks now and they have held up nicely. A bit on the higher end in regards to price but it does the job. They do a good job lighting up the road beneath me in addition to my front and rear lights. Accompanied with a Chrome Industries reflective jacket, you’ll have your own electric light parade!
